Sally died on July 1, 1865, after a killer tornade struck Viroqua, Vernon County, Wisconsin on June 28, 1865. She died within days of the storms hitting her house, where she and her husband Phineas were residing. Their daughter Tirzar Drake and her husband John Barstow were killed as well as son Phineas. All died as the result of their injuries.
