Notes

  • Perley was the youngest son of Warren William and Rachel Jane (Singles) Schoville. On July 25, 1906 he married Eliza Ann Ward, daughter of Will and Ella (Knause) Ward. There are several first name variations for Perley- Pearl, Pearley, Perl, Perlie. He was a farmer on Trout Creek in Crawford County. Perley had 8 siblings, but only himself and his brothers James, Harley and Harvey Schoville, lived to adulthood.
Perley was the first person licensed by the State of Wisconsin to be a Explosive Engineer (dynamiter). He worked for the Crawford County Highway Department. Perley was remembered to always carry dynamite in his back pocket and blasting caps in his shirt pocket. When dynamiting he would hold the blasting cap in his mouth. It is thought that he may have had lead poisoning from this, because the caps were made of lead.
  • SOLDIERS GROVE - Funeral Services were held here Monday for Pearl Schoville, 55, employee of the county highway department, who died Friday at his home. He is survived by the widow; three daughters, Mrs Hubert Burrage, Soldiers Grove; Mrs Milford Baker, Sabula, Ia.; and Mrs Clare Wanless, Soldiers Grove; six sons, Harrison, Archie, Warren and Dorvin all of Waterloo, Iowa; Fred, Knapps Creek and Orvin, at home; and three brothers, Henry, Boscobel; Harvey, Soldiers Grove; and James, Soldiers Grove. The Rev. F.W. Vorphal conducted services at the home and at the Christian Church, and burial was in the Readstown cemetery.
  • Put up a new tobacco shed.
